I thought it would be fun to record a "day in the life of" post.
Life has changed quite a bit since having Kennedy. For the past 5 years I've either been in school (this time last year I was in my last semester of grad school) or working. It has been be-autiful to slow down and enjoy this time with my daughter.
People keep asking "how are you sleeping?" The answer is, "About as good as you can be with a three week old." Ha! Kennedy has been waking up every 2.5 hours to eat at night and get a diaper change. I started pumping last week so Dwight has been getting up once a night to do a feeding shift. It has helped this mama a lot! Currently, Kennedy is in a bassinet next to our bed, eventually she will move to her crib...but I'm not rushing that!
I try to lay out all of Tristan's clothes/pack his lunch/get his backpack ready the night before each new school day. It saves us about 35 minutes each morning. Dwight usually gets up, feeds T breakfast and takes him to school (Monday-Thursday). K and I take our time getting up, usually around 8:30am/9am (depending if we have somewhere to be). I love our morning snuggle time, it's pure sweetness.
Another favorite part of my day is picking out Kennedy's outfit. Apparently I never outgrew the dress up phase of childhood. Ha! It is so much fun having a little girl, more fun than my heart could have dreamed of. This morning I got baby cakes dressed and ready for our day.
Dwight works in the evenings so he gets to spend the day with us which I absolutely love. Today, he ran a couple of errands for me after dropping T off at school. When he got back he fixed us lunch and we headed off to the elementary school Tristan will be attending Kindergarten at. We missed Kindergarten round up because I was in labor. The school felt like that was a pretty good excuse. ;) I was feeding the baby before we left and she fell asleep in my arms. I had to keep rocking a little bit longer because these are the moments I know I will long for this time next year.
While I took a shower and got ready, Kennedy chilled in her bouncy seat. She wasn't extremely happy about it to begin with!
But she warmed up to the idea shortly. :)
The three of us headed out around 11am to the school. Kennedy slept the entire time in her carseat. Good girl!! She doesn't always like that thing. Dwight and I wanted to tour the school before registering, we debated between the school we were zoned for and another school in the district that had a little better test score ratings. However, after our tour we knew instantly this was the perfect fit for our boy. This school has everything we want in a school for Tristan. Small class sizes, parent involvement, and diversity. I know this will be the perfect environment for T to thrive in! As sad as I am to send my first baby off to "big kid" school...I know he is completely ready and excited.
After registering, I dropped off the hubs and daughter, and headed off to get a massage, compliments of my sweet hubby. Dwight came home Sunday night with a surprise for me...a membership to massage envy. I was SO happy. The massage was heavenly. So much so, that I fell asleep the last 5 minutes of it. Ahhhh relaxation, a mother's best friend!
When I got home, Tristan was being dropped of by his carpool ride. It is always a highlight of my day to see this face! Of course, he wanted to hold sister. He was watching Sprout, eating a snack (crackers) and holding her. Dwight and I were laughing because she would start fussing and he would just rock back and forth and pat her bottom. He is such a good big bro!
Well, it is almost 6pm, and I am about to get dinner started: Beef enchiladas is on the menu. I finally have the energy to cook again. Mimi and Poppy are stopping by tonight to see the kids and help me with a few things around the house. Dwight will be home around 10pm and I will try my hardest to wait up for him. I usually end up passed out on the couch around 9pm. Thankful for these precious days with my family!
