Mondays with Mommy

Tristan and I are finally recovered from being sick the past week and our weekend of car shopping. Thank goodness! We enjoyed a beautiful day at the zoo today with some friends, the weather was absolutely perfect and I think we were 6 1/2 of the 15 people there. I say 1/2 because Trish is pregnant and due any day now. I told her she is WAY better at being pregnant than I am! She is about to pop, has a 1year old and a 3 year old and STILL has the energy to walk the zoo for 3 hours...impressive!

We all met up at 10:30am and enjoyed a nice morning/mid-afternoon looking at "zerras, yions," (as Tristan would say) monkeys, tigers and much more. The kids had so much fun and did very well riding in the strollers and walking around occasionally.

I asked Tristan this morning if he wanted me to fix his hair or wear a hat, he opted for the hat. Ha! I am growing his hair out so it's in an awkward stage right now.

After the zoo we all met up with another friend of ours, Leslie and her 3 kids at McDonald's. This was Tristan's 2nd time to ever eat there and the boy was in love. He ate his happy meal, some of my fries, and some of Trish's nuggets! My mom called to check on us today and asked what we were doing, I told her we just left lunch. I knew what was next, "where did you eat?" I said "...McDonald's..." Which she replied "you people never learn! ha ha" I've had horrible food poisoning from there and swore it off but who can resist those fries??!! Plus, I haven't eaten there in FOREVER. We enjoyed it and are not sick from it! :)

Catching up; Thanksgiving, New car, & Sunday fun!

This Thanksgiving was different than any other I've ever had because I had to work the night before and the day of Thanksgiving...meaning I needed to sleep! I got off at 7am Thursday morning and managed to stay up until about 11am which is about when Tristan naps so we laid down together and slept until 2:30pm when lunch was ready. I ate, stayed up for about 45 minutes then went back to bed, I was SO tired. I didn't take one.single.picture so you know I must have been exhausted! :) Someone, my sister Ashley I suspect (you'll see why below), got my camera and took a couple of pics. Meanwhile I snoozed away until about 8pm when I got up to play with Tristan and head off to work at 10:30pm. That is the one bad thing about working somewhere that is open 24-7, 365 days a year. Someone ALWAYS has to be there, this holiday it was my turn. Thank goodness I have like 9 days off in December, including Christmas eve and day! Despite this different kind of Thanksgiving, I am very thankful for what the Lord has blessed me with this year.

Tristan and Nanny

Ha ha... the proof!

The night before Thanksgiving, Tristan and I met up with 3 of my best friends, Allie, Ashley and Jill for our annual Thanksgiving eve dinner at Rosa's. We started it when we were all poor college students and that was all we could afford...now we're all graduated from college or almost there but I think we'll stick to our tradition! :) Tristan put on quite a show for the girls and got SO SO SO upset when we had to leave. He wanted to stay and play!

Tristan and aunt Allie!

Ready for bed Thanksgiving eve. :)

Friday I got off of work at 7am and then went car shopping with my dad at 9am. Have I mentioned I HATE car shopping? I'm so bad at it! But we made some head way and found some great deals. Unfortunately the adventure had to continue into Saturday, with Tristan by my side. Thank goodness he is a good baby because we shopped from 10am until 11:30pm. Crazy!! Especially since I got off work at 7am and didn't get any sleep. Even though it was a long day, I enjoyed the quality time with Poppy and Tristan. My dad took us to lunch and to 3 car dealerships. Of course the LAST one we went to was the one we ended up buying my new car at. We were ALL exhausted. Thank you so much Tony for your help!!! I wouldn't have lasted 1 minute in one of those places with out him. He is the best! :) Tristan loved test driving the cars with us. Note to self, do not take babies car shopping! We had to though because my mother was sick with strep and couldn't watch him. We would just put his carseat in whatever car we were looking at and he loved it. When they took my civic Tristan got SO upset and said "nooo my mommy's car!" But now he tells everyone "I have new car!"

You can tell from this pic that Tristan uses the pacy these days as more of a teether. His back two molars are coming in.

I got a 2011 Nissan Altima. It is SO much fun to drive and SO easy to get Tristan in and out of. I love the 4 doors, the fact that it starts with no key in the ignition, as long as the key is in the car (in the diaper bag, my coat pocket....on the floor :) then I just push the button and it goes!

Today we went to church, I'm not sure how we even woke up...! Afterwards we grabbed lunch with Faith and her mom then went and played at Faith's house for a bit. Tristan and her play so well together and get very upset when it's time to part ways.

When we got home from Faith's I tried to put Tristan down and this is what he did. He is definitely attached to his mommy! He wrapped his little legs around my legs and refused to be put down. Ohh I love him! :)

This is coming week is my only week of December that I have to work M-F. Every week following I have at least one day off and I am so excited! I can't wait for all the fun Christmas activities we have planned. We are going to be riding the "Polar Express" in Grapevine, they read the book The Polar Express, serve hot chocolate, sings songs and take you on a train ride while doing it. T will LOVE it! Of course we will be going to see Santa in the next week or so, looking at lights, putting up our Christmas tree and SHOPPING!!
I love this time of year!

25 Things I am thankful for

25 seems like a random number but, I picked it because Thanksgiving lands on the 25th and that day in itself means SO much more to me than it ever has before.
I am thankful....
  1. That I worship THE one true God, who despite my many mistakes, failures, and flaws, loves me unconditionally.
  2. That I have a healthy, happy, perfect son who has absolutely changed just about every part of me for the better.
  3. My family has sacrificed SO much for me and Tristan so I could graduate from college and give Tristan the best life possible.
  4. For my sisters, Ashley, Natalie and Melody. I love our friendships and I love seeing them love my son.
  5. For my best friends Jill, Allie, Ashley, Krystle, and Kristy and what their friendships have been to me in every season of life.
  6. For learning from my past, forgiving those who have hurt me and the ability to move on and live a life covered by the blood of Christ.
  7. For my job and the opportunity to reach out and love so many hurting women and children on a daily basis.
  8. For my amazing church, Gateway and the absolute blessing it has been to me and my family.
  9. That I have a crafty momma who loves to bake, paint, decorate and spoil her girls and boy!
  10. Tristan has 2 of the best grandparents, ever. They would literally lay down their life for that little boy. He has them wrapped around his little fingers.
  11. For all the different seasons in life. Even the ones that hurt so badly. They teach us to depend on Christ, trust in His will and when a brighter season comes, oh how we appreciate it so much more!
  12. For my education. That I had the opportunity to go to a Christian University for my bachelors degree and return for my Master's degree.
  13. That God put a lot of punch in my little body! Ha. He gave me the strength to fight for what I believe, to eliminate what I know shouldn't be and some extra fiestiness just for fun! :)
  14. To live in a beautiful home with my parents and that Tristan and I can each have our own space!! :)
  15. For texting...what did we do before it?! There are very few people I like to sit and have a conversation with, texting is just so much easier and faster!
  16. That Tristan goes to an awesome preschool that has taught him social skills, how to count to 10, his ABC's, that it's okay to be away from mommy and I will ALWAYS come back to get him.
  17. That Tristan has his Poppy to look up to, wrestle with and do boy things with!
  18. Tristan LOVES to cuddle. He would rather be in my arms, lying on my chest or curled up beside me in my bed when he is sleeping then anything else.
  19. That during my entire pregnancy, and going into labor 2 months early, God was by my side the entire time. Even though Tristan was born 4 weeks early he was 100 % healthy and didn't spend one second in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  20. I live in America.
  21. I have a car...even though it nearly killed me the other day. Okay, I am more thankful that my parents spent 2 days on the phone with Honda while I slept after work arguing on my behalf and fighting to get me a new car (still in the works)!
  22. I have the cutest little grandparents, ever who love Tristan SO much and always want to see or help with him.
  23. That my family is diverse. It's the perfect depiction of love, color blind love! :)
  24. For laughter, even when you want to cry...it always makes things better.
  25. To be the mother of Tristan Kye and to have learned SO much in the 2 years I've had him. Life is so much more than what you do or don't have, rather WHO you have.

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend we celebrated Faith's 2 year birthday! Tristan and I joined her and her family at Chuck E Cheese for a little birthday bash. I can't believe my sweet girl turns 2 tomorrow! Tristan and I both were a little under the weather so I wasn't sure how long we would last but it didn't effect Tristan one bit. He ate tons of pizza, played games, and danced his little heart out with his buddy! :)

Tristan loves everything about Chuck E Cheese except for Chuck himself. Ha! Here is his reaction to the big furry guy.

Dancing! :)

Me with Brooke and Lauren, Faith's 2 older sisters. Lauren and I have been friends since we were 8 years old. Going on 14 years!

Granny (Faith's g ma) made her this adorable Barney cake. Faithy is obsessed with Barney and was so upset when we cut into him, he was good though!

Sunday after church Mimi and Poppy took Tristan out to lunch so I could stay home and get stuff done. They went to the Red Brick Oven in Colleyville.

Each table has a tv to watch while you eat your pizza, how fun!

Monday Tristan and I went and played with some friends! Here Tristan is with Grayson, Ld, Briley, Elliott, and Grace. They had lunch together and played for hours. T came home and took a 3 1/2 hour nap!

Well, me and my boy are sick! Super sick. I started feeling bad last Wednesday but thought I was just run down from my work schedule and had a little viral infection. 5 days later I'm still feeling awful. I took Tristan to the dr today because he was running a fever, turns out we both have double ear infections, sore throats, yucky coughs and noses. Ugh! The worst part is that my paid sick leave/vacation time and insurance doesn't start until Dec 6 when I hit my 3 month mark of working at Safe Haven. If I could've just gotten sick 2 weeks from now!! Luckily I do have an antibiotic I can take and I work the night shift and don't have to deal with too many people. :) I'm off to eat dinner (chicken friend steak) which makes everything better, Ha. Get little man ready for bed and lay down myself for a couple of hours before work at 11pm. Hopefully we feel better by Thursday!

Life Lately & a Sneak Peak of Tristan's new room!

How is it already the weekend again??!! It's been a while since I've been on here... I feel like our weeks fly by these days...! I think I have finally (after 2 and a half months) adjusted to my overnight schedule! I have been SO sick the past 3 days but I am starting to feel better. I lost my voice, something my family is way too happy about. Ha! Most mornings I usually get home around 7:30am and Tristan is normally hanging out with Mimi or Poppy in the living room watching one of his new favorite shows, Mickey Mouse Club House. As soon as he hears me unlock the door I can see him run towards me through the window. It's probably my favorite part of the day! :) We eat breakfast and play for about an hour before I get him dressed and take him to school on Tues, Weds, and Thurs. Fridays he has a date day with Mimi and Poppy and Mondays he is with me all day.

Last Thursday Tristan had his very first dentist appointment! I found a great pediatric dentist in Keller. I was a bit nervous but the appointment went great. It is THE cutest office ever! It is themed as a movie theater and has 3 tvs for kids to play play station on, a big plasma that was showing the movie "Up" and tons of other fun things for kids to do. The assistant came to get us and asked to hold Tristan hand and he shuffled on over to her. He does this little shuffle walk that cracks us up. I'm not sure what its about but we say he looks like a penguin when he does it. Ha! When the dentist came back he asked if Tristan could smile and show his teeth, T gave the cheesiest smile ever! Too funny. They counted his teeth and brushed them. That part was a little rocky but T man did good and even gave the Dr. a high five once it was all done with. Apparently Mr. has all of his teeth but 2 back molars!

After his cleaning he got to pick out a price and a sticker. He got a bouncy ball and a car sticker, both of which he was very proud of!

Notice there is a pacy in his mouth? That thing has snuck its way back into our lives. We only have 2 left and the dentist said as long as it is gone by age 3 or 4 (WAY too old) he would be fine. I think after our trip to Corpus in December I'm just throwing the last two out. But I want them for that lovely 8 hour road trip!!

That same night I was reading Tristan his books before bed, we usually do two, sometimes he gets me to read way more, but its another favorite part of my day with him. I cherish little moments like that, that I know I will look back on one day and think "Where did time go??" ...I already do! He ALWAYS wants to read his Elmo book called "Red or Blue, I like you" it's about loving people of all different races. His aunt Ashley got him that for his birthday and it is definitely his favorite book. He has a ton of books that we keep in a huge basket by the glider. I asked him to bring me the "Jesus book" (his children's Bible) I wasn't sure if he would know what I was talking about but he started digging around and after about 5 seconds pulled it out and said "Here's Jesus!" It made me SO happy. I love reading the word of God to him every night and praying with/over him.

Last week was our first Sunday in our new church building. We go to Gateway in Southlake, that church has been a blessing beyond words and even though some refer to it as a "mega church" it is so personable and home to us. Kari Job led worship and it was amazing. I have met some of the sweetest, dearest people there. I love all of my life group ladies! We all got to meet this past Wed at a team room and do group there.

The children's part was beyond adorable. They put SO much thought and effort in designing this area. Tristan loved it! He was in 1 of the 5 Tiny Train rooms for his age group.

Here is an area for the kids to go after class with their parents and just play!
My timid little man wasn't interested in doing so, but we did stop in to look. :)

Aunt Jill came with us too! So did Krystle, but the only pic I got was accidentally of her in the bottom of the above pic. :)

Fast forward to the following Monday and this is the last pic I have of Tristan (and my Gracie girl) playing in the lime green room...

Because, it is now blue and Mimi is working hard on her masterpiece. Every night I wake up from sleeping after work and there is so much more done! She free-handed this too. She is awesome!! She still has the train to finish, the smoke puffing out of the train and the scripture to paint. I've told myself this is the only pic I am going to post until we have a finished product. I was just TOO proud of her not to put this up! She plans to be done with the wall by the end of this weekend but the bedding, headboard and other accessories won't be here until December. So, stay tuned! :)

Well there is a little recap of our past week! My lap top crashed (again) and I had to go to best buy and get a new one today. Note to self, not a good idea to shop for a major item when going on zero sleep. I was very ready for bed by the time I got home. Tristan napped with me then Grace's mom came and picked him up so I could keep sleeping. Thanks again, Laurie!!

TGIF!!!
