I'll never forget the morning. It was Tuesday, August 20th. Dwight was at work, Tristan was at school, and I was getting ready to go to a get together with my bible study group. In all honesty I did not think I was pregnant. We had planned to wait another year before adding another family member to our crew, and other than feeling a little bit off, I felt fine. Even still, I went ahead and bought a pregnancy test, halfway feeling like it was a waste of money (those things aren't cheap) Ha!
You can imagine my surprise when I saw a very visible positive sign!
I instantly had tears running down my cheeks, and a smile on my face. God's plans for us are often different than the ones we have for ourselves. Every time that happens, I can't help but thank him for knowing much better than I do. After seeing that I was indeed pregnant, I had to go through the rest of the morning with my girl friends not saying a word. I couldn't wait for Dwight to get off!
I wanted to tell Dwight in a sweet/creative way, but I knew I did not have the patience to make it a long drawn out thing. So, I went to the bakery got this cake and asked the baker to write "due in April" on it. I then met Dwight for lunch. I told him that I bought a dessert for dinner that night and wanted him to look at it. He was pretty confused since a) we are not huge dessert people. b) I definitely wouldn't ask him to approve it. But it's the best I could do!
To say he was shocked would be an understatement. Ha! We both were, but I had a little more time for it to sink in. He read the cake, looked at me, asked "is this for you?", stared some more and then just smiled. I showed him the positive test and we both laughed at how we had just talked about waiting another year or so...God has a sense of humor!
At the time I found out, I was 4 weeks, 5 days pregnant. I had a sonogram at exactly 6 weeks and we got to see a tiny little peanut with a strong beating heart. I so loved sharing that moment with Dwight. Even though this is not our first baby, it is our first pregnancy to experience together. It is such a sweet bond to share. For about the first two weeks we would randomly say to each other "we're having a baby...!" It just didn't seem real.

That is until nausea hit me like a ton of bricks. Finding out so early, my body had not fully acclimated to being pregnant and the hormones were not in full force. Right at 6 weeks I got "knock me off my feet" nauseas. It was rough. I don't think I left the couch for days. Poor Tristan asked "mommy, why are you being so lazy now?" Ha!! Gotta love the honesty of children. I tried every home remedy out there: sea bands (pictured below), magnesium oil, peppermint, ginger, and more. After two weeks of suffering I resorted to Zofran, a prescription anti-nausea medicine. Unfortunately, it doesn't even do the trick. It certainly takes the edge off though. I was not this sick with Tristan!
Yesterday, was our 10 week sonogram. It just amazes me how much a baby grows in a matter of 4 weeks. Baby C went from a dot to a little human with legs, arms, and hands! The baby was "waving" and trying to suck it's thumb. Melt-my-heart!!
I am hoping with the second trimester comes complete relief from nausea. I am praying hard for it! I have picked an awesome group of midwives to deliver the baby with. Although I will be using midwives, this particular group is a group of RN's with Master's degrees in nursing as well. They work in conjunction with OBGYNs and deliver at an awesome hospital in downtown Fort Worth. It's the best of both worlds for us. My next appointment is next Monday so I'll have more to update on then. :) Dwight and I are SO excited and feel so blessed that the Lord picked us to be this precious baby's parents. We cannot wait to meet him/her in late April of 2014!
